Test centrifuge vs CJC® Lube Oil Filter

Test period: 17 months

Engine running time: 7,880 operating hours during the test period

Test start: at approx. 25,000 operating hours

Last revision: before 13,680 operating hours at the end of the test

Conventional lubricating oil treatment: One centrifuge for two engines (DG#1 and DG#2) and one centrifuge bypass filter (“Glacier filter”) per engine.

Newly installed CJC® Lube Oil Filter: During the test period, a CJC® Lube Oil Filter 3×27/108 was installed on engine DG#1 for continuous depth filtration and dewatering (24/7/365). The automatic temperature controlled flow ensures optimum operation and the highest filtration efficiency. Pump flow: 1,680 L per hour (0.58 L/kW) nominal, at test end 840 L per hour (0.29 l/kW)

Savings and Benefits

50-60% lower lubricating oil consumption ≅ 5,465 liters/year

The specific lubricating oil consumption (SLOC MCR*) of the test engine with installed CJC® Lube Oil Filter is 0.25 g/kWh-0.31 g/kWh lower than for the engine with centrifuge:

  • significant less oil consumption
  • improved engine performance

Fewer deposits in the engine room

The dark, black deposits on the surfaces, a mixture of asphaltenes and soot, have visibly decreased on the test engine. The test engine is cleaner.

Good dipersant properties, low soot content

The quick test to analyze the condition of the oil and engine confirms that the lubricating oil in the test engine has a lower soot content and better dispersing properties. The improved lubricating effect and the preservation of the oil properties extend the service life of the lubricating oil.

Less sludge

The centrifuge bypass filters are inspected every 200-300 hours, whereby the thickness of the sludge coating on the filter is measured (ø 5 mm). Approx. 3,000 hours after installation of the CJC® Lube Oil Filter, no more sludge coating was detected on the centrifuge bypass filter of the test engine.
